Barcelona are planning a shock move for Manchester United winger Angel di Maria.

The former Real Madrid man is rumoured to be unsettled at Old Trafford after his first season in England and is eyeing a move back to Spain.

According to Catalan newspaper Sport, Di Maria is on Barca's shortlist of potential signings and the Champions League winners believe they can reinvigorate the Argentine's career.

United remain determined to keep the 27-year-old and Louis van Gaal wants to see how he fares during a second season in the Premier League before making a decision over his long-term future.

Di Maria, who is currently on international duty at the Copa America, made 20 Premier League starts last term, scoring three goals and recording 11 assists.

Any move by Barcelona would be completed in January of next year, with the Spanish club currently under a FIFA-imposed transfer ban.
