'I’m so happy he is now an Arsenal goalkeeper' - David Seaman hails signing of Chelsea's Petr Cech

Arsenal’s signing of Petr Cech has been hailed by their legendary former goalkeeper David Seaman.

Cech joined the Gunners in a £10million deal on Monday after Chelsea reluctantly sanctioned the switch across London as a reward for a decade of outstanding service.

The 33-year-old saw limited action in the Premier League last season having lost his starting spot at Stamford Bridge to Thibaut Courtois, but Seaman insists the Gunners are getting a goalkeeper at the very top of his game.

“I’m so happy he is now an Arsenal goalkeeper," the ex-England number one said, speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.

"He is at the prime age for a goalkeeper. I joined Arsenal when I was 26. I had four years of first division experience when I went to Arsenal and the more I got into it and the more I played top-flight and top pressure football it made me a lot better. By the time I was 30, I was at my prime, and I think that is where Petr is.”

Cech boasts more than 150 clean sheets in the Premier League, and Seaman believes he will strengthen the Arsenal backline immeasurably.

“He will demand respect straight away through what he has done his career at Chelsea,” continued Seaman.

“When somebody of that stature comes in, it does steady the defence down. They will enjoy playing in front of Petr Cech because he is a talker, he is an organiser.

“The trophies he has won is incredible. Can he do at another club? For me and Arsenal, I hope he can.”
