Bastian Schweinsteiger update: Manchester United step up chase for Germany star

Manchester United have stepped up their chase of Bastian Schweinsteiger by offering the midfielder a lucrative contract.

Louis van Gaal has made the Bayern Munich stalwart his top transfer target this summer and United are confident they can lure the World Cup winner to the Premier League.

According to Bild, United have offered Schweinsteiger a two-year deal and are now awaiting a reply.

The 30-year-old is due for talks with Bayern's owners in the near future but it is understood that Pep Guardiola is reluctant to sell the central midfielder.

However, Schweinsteiger has just one year left on his contract with the club and the Bavarians are yet to offer him a new deal.
