Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani is the 'prime target' to replace Robin van Persie at Manchester United, according to the Guardian's Jamie Jackson.

The Uruguayan has been linked with the Red Devils this summer, with Van Persie nearing a move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke is also on Louis van Gaal's list but, according to Jackson, Liverpool are still in the boxseat to land the big Belgian.

And it is PSG star Cavani who is interesting the Dutchman.

"Edinson Cavani is Manchester United’s prime target to replace Robin van Persie," he told Hawksbee and Jacobs.

"Liverpool are more keen on Christian Benteke than United. Benteke is on United's list, and there is interest there, but he’s not top of the list at the moment.”
