Manchester City v Arsenal: David Seaman insists Gunners can shock Pep Guardiola's side

Ex-Arsenal keeper David Seaman believes Arsenal have a chance of victory at the Etihad on Sunday, but they will need to be at their very best.

The 54-year-old told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast he has noticed some promising signs over the past few weeks.

He said: “I’ve got a better feeling about this game than I had when Arsenal went to Chelsea. Arsenal, coming off that bad result at Liverpool, played at Chelsea and played a really good game.

“Now we’re getting some decent results, not playing brilliantly, but getting the results.”

The Gunners have only lost one of their last seven league games and currently sit fifth.

But Seaman concedes it will take an awful lot to stop an unbeaten Manchester City side, who are five points clear at the top of the table.

He added: “Arsenal really need to take their A-game up there because City are absolutely on fire. They’re scoring from all over the park. It’s mouth-watering.

“They do look special at the moment but they’ve not got into a sticky patch yet and normally, throughout the season, each club has that little drop of form.

“City are nowhere near that. They’re just blazing everyone away.”

The ex-England number one reckons top four has to be the target for his former club this season, after they missed out on the Champions League for the first time in 21 years.

He continued: “I think that’s what they’ve got to aim at - the top four. Because losing out last season is a bit of a wake-up call for quite a few people.

“You can’t say we’re going to win the league. If they play fantastically then they’ve got a great chance. But realistically it’s going to be top four.”
