Claude Makelele leaves Swansea City to take on managerial role in Belgium

Claude Makelele has been appointed as the head coach of K.A.S. Eupen.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder has left his role as assistant manager of Swansea City to take up the top job with the Belgian side.

The Frenchman has been working alongside Paul Clement at the Liberty Stadium since January.

He was previously part of the Paris Saint-Germain backroom staff with Clement during Carlo Ancelotti's spell as manager.

Makelele has now decided to leave the Premier League strugglers for another crack at management.

Eupen currently sit bottom of Belgium's top-flight, having won two of their opening 14 games.

Makelele has previous experience of management, having led French side Bastia for just under six months in 2014.
