Mohamed Salah achieved two record feats with his assist against West Ham.

The Liverpool forward set up Luis Diaz to open the scoring at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Diaz put the hosts in front after just 18 minutes as they close in on the Premier League title.

Salah's assist is his 18th in the Premier League this season, taking his tally of goal contributions to 45 this term.

It is the most combined goals and assists a player has recorded during a 38-game season.

Salah had equalled the previous record shared by Thierry Henry and Erling Haaland after his two goals against Southampton last month.

However, he was unable to surpass their 44 goal contributions in Liverpool’s last two league matches against Everton and Fulham.

Henry had held the record since the 2002/03 season, having been joined by Haaland following his debut campaign at Manchester City two years ago.

Liverpool went on to win the game 2-1, with a late Andy Robertson own-goal quickly followed by a Virgil van Dijk header with a minute to go.

Sunday's assist continues the 32-year-old’s best season since signing for the club in the summer of 2017.

His 27 league strikes are also just five short of his most prolific season for the Reds, which came in his debut campaign at Anfield.

Arne Slot’s side have six matches remaining following the visit of the Hammers.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian is the first player to provide 18 assists in the competition since Kevin De Bruyne in 2019/20.

The City midfielder tallied 20 assists during that campaign, a figure which Salah could still surpass.

As for Salah, his assist comes just two days after he committed his future to Liverpool.

After months of speculation surrounding his future, he penned a new two-year deal with the club.

Salah is now contracted through until the summer of 2027, with Virgil van Dijk also set to extend his deal.

Both players' contracts had been set to expire at the end of the current campaign.
