Video: Daniele De Rossi sent off for slapping opponent then diving

Daniele De Rossi is one of the most highly-regarded players in the recent history of the Italian football.

He is a legend for both Roma and the Azzurri, but was an embarrassment to the game on Sunday.

While playing in Roma’s 1-1 draw at Genoa, the 34-year-old was shown a red card after slapping Gianluca Lapadula across the face - then diving in the immediate aftermath.

After the match, Roma boss Eusebio De Francesco said: “Daniele is not a youngster and he knows that. He’s able to take responsibility.

“It's a shame. Daniele knows he made a mistake -- with the technology we have nowadays, you don't get away with that kind of thing.”
