Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith says Alexis Sanchez is playing like a man who wants to leave

Ex-Arsenal forward Alan Smith told talkSPORT Alexis Sanchez is not fully dedicated to the club.

The Chilean, whose contract expires at the end of the season, was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City over the summer and could go for free next year.

And Smith believes the foward’s poor start to the season speaks for itself.

“Sanchez’ form hasn’t been brilliant,” he said, speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast. “He looks like a player whose mind perhaps is elsewhere, not committed to the club.

“They’re not getting the best out of him and the quicker they can resolve the situation,  the better.

“It looks like he’s just going to walk away for free in the summer. That’s disastrous from a business point of view.”

Another player whose contract runs out in the summer is Jack Wilshere.

The midfielder is expected to start when the Gunners meet Liverpool on Friday night in what could prove to be a top-four crunch tie.

Smith believes the Englishman will be desperate to grab the opportunity in Aaron Ramsey’s absence and prove that he deserves a new deal.

He added: “He’s pretty much at full fitness, he’s pumped up, he’ll want to be proving a point out there and if he has a good game that’ll certainly make Arsene Wenger think.

“The manager’s been looking to see Jack go through a period without getting injured and to show that he can stay in the team.

“He gives Arsenal something they haven’t got. I don’t know whether they would offer him a contract or not.

“I’m just pleased he’s back in the frame now.”
