Blaise Matuidi: Juventus midfielder reveals he was racial abused by fans during Serie A clash with Cagliari

Juventus' French midfielder Blaise Matuidi says he was the victim of racist abuse during his side's Serie A match away to Cagliari on Saturday night.

The 30-year-old, who joined Juve last summer from Paris Saint-Germain, wrote on his official Facebook page that he had been targeted by "weak people (who) try to intimidate with hate".

His comments came just two days after another Serie A side, Hellas Verona, were hit with a partial stadium ban after Matuidi was racially abused by their supporters on December 30 last year.

Matuidi wrote on his social media page after the 1-0 win at Caliari: "Today I experienced racism during the match.

"Weak people try to intimidate with hate. I am not a hater and can only be sorry for those who set bad examples. Football is a way to spread equality, passion and inspiration and this is what I am here for. Peace."

Italian football has been marred by various incidents of racial abuse in recent years,

In January 2013 AC Milan refused to play on in a friendly against Pro Patria after Kevin-Prince Boateng was subjected to abuse, while Inter Milan were fined 50,000 euros the following month after AC Milan forward Mario Balotelli was targeted by monkey chants.
