Messi v Ronaldo for Ballon d’Or 2015: Fans have their say on who deserves the trophy

Fifa have released the 23-man shortlist for the 2015 Ballon d’Or, and while it has been a promising advert for the Premier League, we all know exactly who will be competing for the honour.
Since the award began in 2010, the battle for world supremacy has been shared between two players: Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
And this is set to continue for another year.
Though the voting could prove a little trickier this time around.
Ronaldo has taken the honour for the past two years, and while his goal scoring form has continued - at the weekend the Portuguese broke Raul’s all-time Real Madrid record - Los Blancos failed to deliver any silverware in the 2014/15 season, which ultimately cost Carlo Ancelotti his job.
Ronaldo’s claims for the award, therefore, are being called into question, especially as Lionel Messi was integral to Barcelona claiming the treble in May.
Nonetheless, despite Messi's trophy-winning form last term, the Argentine is currently nursing a torn ligament in his knee, sustained in September, and isn’t set to return to action until late November.
This has led to some wondering whether his absence from the field could damage his hopes of winning the Ballon d'Or.
Thus, with such uncertainty over the Messi or Ronaldo debate at present, talkSPORT has delved into the world of Twitter and has taken a look at who the fans want to see win.
