Ex-Sunderland Gus Poyet set to return to management with Greek top-flight side AEK Athens

Former Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has landed in Greece to finalise his deal to take over as manager of AEK Athens.

Poyet has been linked with the vacant Aston Villa job since the sacking of Tim Sherwood but he now looks set to put his managerial skills to the test in a different country.

The 47-year-old has been out of work since leaving Sunderland in March following 17 months at the helm of the Wearside club, which culminated in a horror run of just one win in his final 12 Premier League games.

But now Poyet is ready to go back into management with AEK, who are currently third in the Greek Super League, eight points behind leaders Olympiakos after eight games.
