FA Cup round-up: Altrincham shock Barnsley, while Eastleigh stun Crewe

Altrincham's remarkable knack of upsetting the FA Cup odds continued with a 1-0 first-round victory over League One strugglers Barnsley.

Damian Reeves' second-half strike was enough for giant-killing Alty to claim their 17th Football League scalp in the competition.

By comparison Eastleigh are knockout novices but the National League side won their first-ever competitive game against a Football League club with a 1-0 triumph at Crewe.

Having seen goalkeeper Ben Garratt sent off just after the hour mark, League One outfit Crewe were on the back foot and Ben Strevens' 75th-minute penalty made them pay.

Forest Green were also celebrating after Elliott Frear's last-minute winner secured a 2-1 win away at AFC Wimbledon but fellow National League side Dover fell victim to a 2-1 loss against Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division side Stourbridge.

Coventry, winners in 1987, also crashed out after a surprise 2-1 defeat at home to League Two side Northampton.

Zander Diamond gave the visitors the lead before Jacob Murphy equalised but Marc Richards' header sent the Cobblers through.

Goals from Steven Schumacher, Chris Whelpdale and Armand Gnanduillet handed League Two side Stevenage a 3-0 win over League One promotion-chasers Gillingham.

Barnet also provided an upset of sorts by seeing off struggling League One outfit Blackpool with goals from Tom Champion and Michael Gash sealing a 2-0 victory.
