Swansea BELIEVE in Garry Monk! – John Hartson would be ‘amazed’ if Jacks sack manager

Former Wales striker John Hartson has told talkSPORT he would be ‘amazed’ if rumours that Swansea are close to sacking manager Garry Monk are true.

Reports over the weekend suggested the club were poised to give the Englishman the boot after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Norwich left the Swans with just one win in eight games.

It was also claimed Monk had fallen out with the Jacks board after turning down an offer of a more experienced coach to help him through the team’s difficult period.

The 36-year-old, who stepped up from defender to first-team coach following the departure of Michael Laudrup in February 2014, was rewarded with a new three-year deal as manager after leading Swansea to their highest ever league finish of eighth place last season.

And Hartson has urged the Welsh side to stick with the boss, insisting he WILL turn the Jacks’ season around.

“I’d be amazed if anything would happen with Garry Monk on the sacking front,” the ex-Celtic, Arsenal and West Ham striker told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.

“Swansea are on a little bit of a poor run, but football is a results business and I think Garry is wise enough to know that he would come under pressure if they weren’t getting results.

“But I would be amazed if anything was to happen. Let’s not forget that Swansea gave Garry an opportunity and he’s done exceptionally well.

“They just recently gave him a new three-year contract at the start of the season, so they believe in him.

“He needs a couple of wins just to push the team further up the table.

“Their next three games are against Bournemouth and Leicester at home, with Liverpool away in between, so - although Leicester are doing very well - they have an opportunity now to pick up some points.”
