Leipzig create area within Napoli changing room for Maurizio Sarri to smoke

Maurizio Sarri is a heavy smoker

To cater for chain-smoking Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri, RB Leipzig have created a smoking area inside the away changing room for him to puff away.

The Serie A leaders are in Germany for the second leg of their Europa League match on Thursday where they will aim to turn around a 3-1 deficit.

And according to German publication Bild, they have added a concrete wall separating the main changing room from the physio room where Sarri, 59, can enjoy a cigarette - presumably not while any injured players are being treated.

Napoli have also asked that smoke detectors are turned off.

“Sarri is a passionate smoker, that's really incredible. I have never seen anyone who smokes so much. Thank God he has to hold back during games,” club captain Marek Hamsik said recently.

Under the manager this season, Napoli have played an exciting style of football and currently lead Juventus by a point. “It’s beautiful to watch, but hard to implement,” Hamsik added.

“You have to run a lot, push hard. This is not a simple football. If we win back the ball, then we can focus on our strength - possession. So we have fun when we attack - but when we defend, we also have to run a lot.

“During the week we always play in training with just two touches of the ball. So we're aiming to move the ball fast. But if our strikers are in possession of the ball, then they may go into dribbling.”

Man City manager Pep Guardiola even claimed Napoli were one of the best sides he has faced in his professional career following their 2-1 Champions League group stage win in October. "They have a big ability to make short passes," he said. "That is why I am so proud because you cannot beat Napoli unless you produce a good performance."
