Arsenal plotting sensational £53m move to sign former Tottenham star Luka Modric from Real Madrid - Reports

Arsenal are planning a £53million bid to sign former Tottenham star Luka Modric this summer, claim reports in Spain.

The Gunners are keen to revamp their squad when the transfer window opens after a dreadful season, which could see them miss out on Champions League football for the second year running.

And, , the Premier League club believe the Real Madrid pass master is the perfect man to bring more balance to their midfield.

Arsene Wenger has lacked options in the middle this season. Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere have been their only consistent performers, with Mesut Ozil constantly under fire for his performances, Granit Xhaka below par and Santi Cazorla still sidelined.

The Spanish newspaper also claims Modric is looking to leave the Bernabeu ‘for a less demanding challenge’ before he hands up his boots.

The 32-year-old Croatia international was initially linked with a move to Italy, but now it is claimed the Gunners are keen to bring the former Spurs ace to the red half of north London to add vital quality and experience.

Arsenal are said to be ready to bid up to €60m (£53m) to sign him, although it appears they will have competition from other clubs around Europe.

Modric has been linked with an emotional return to Tottenham, although Premier League rivals Liverpool, who have cash to splash following the £142m sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, are also said to be monitoring the midfielder.

Meanwhile, both Juventus and AC Milan have been linked with a strong interest in Italy.
