New deal: Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook signs contract keeping him at club until 2022

Lewis Cook has committed his long-term future to Bournemouth by signing a new four-year contract with the club.

The 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at the Vitality Stadium until the summer of 2022.

He joined the Cherries from Leeds in July 2016 and has made 41 appearances for Eddie Howe's side, earning a senior England cap in the friendly against Italy at Wembley in March.

"This new contract is a really proud moment for me and the icing on the cake for the year we've had and all the hard work that's gone on behind the scenes at the club," said Cook, who is part of the standby group for the England World Cup squad.

"It came as a nice surprise. I was just concentrating on my football and playing games, but when it was spoken about I couldn't wait to get it signed.

"I'm really enjoying my football here and I'm looking forward to the future with Bournemouth."

Last summer, Cook captained England Under-20s to World Cup success in South Korea.

Cook has also received an England Under-21 call-up for this summer's Toulon tournament and Cherries boss Howe is in no doubt of the midfielder's potential.

"Lewis has had an outstanding campaign, highlighted by his recognition with the England team and his place on standby for the World Cup squad," Howe said on the club's official website.

"His immediate future is now with us and we can really concentrate on next season.

"This is an exciting stage of Lewis' career, which is heading in the right direction, and I am delighted that will happen at Bournemouth."

Howe saw his side finish 12th in the Premier League last season, and believes retaining the long-term services of players like Cook can only bode well for continued progress.

"It was important that we get our talented, young players to commit to the future of the club and this is a really important signing for us to make," the Bournemouth manager said.
