Manchester United FC transfer news: Fred signing close with Red Devils hoping to complete deal next week
Manchester United are close to making Fred their first summer signing, according to reports.
Fred, the Shakhtar Donetsk and Brazil midfielder, is expected to complete a transfer to Old Trafford at the start of next month, the report. The deal could be confirmed sometime next week as Jose Mourinho, the United manager, wants to get his transfer business completed early in the window.
Fred has made over 100 appearances for Shakhtar since signing for the Ukraine club in 2013
United stepped up their interest in Fred last month following Michael Carricks retirement, with Mourinho keen to strengthen his midfield options following a trophyless campaign.
The Red Devils are said to be pushing through with the move despite Shakhtar inserting a release clause worth around £53m (60m) into Freds most recent contract.
Manchester City have previously held interest in Fred, though they have pulled out the race leaving United a free run at the 25-year-old.
