Manchester United transfer report: David de Gea 'will be allowed to join Real Madrid' – IF they can land their number one target as his replacement

Manchester United are ready to allow David de Gea to join Real Madrid this summer – but only if they can land his replacement.

Reports claim the Red Devils are targeting Atletico Madrid number one Jan Oblak and are willing to let De Gea go if they can land him in this transfer window.

The 27-year-old Spaniard is a long-term target for Real, having been close to joining the LaLiga giants back in 2015.

They have repeatedly attempted to sign the Spain number one in following windows, but United have always resisted any urge to cash in on the man considered by many as the best goalkeeper in the world.

But, , Real are ready to launch their latest bid to land De Gea – and United could let him leave this time.

De Gea, who won his first Premier League golden glove award this season with 18 clean sheets, is said to be keen to return to his hometown, having come through the ranks at rivals Atletico Madrid.

The Spanish source also claims United have already identified his successor in 25-year-old Slovenian Oblak, and will look to land the Atletico number one before making a decision about their current glovesman’s future.

Oblak, who has also been linked with a move to Liverpool, has emerged as one of the top goalkeepers in LaLiga and has kept the most clean sheets in the league for three seasons in a row.

Diario Gol also claims De Gea’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has held talks with Real president Florentino Perez over a potential move to the Spanish capital.
