Arsenal set to sign Sampdoria and Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira, according to reports

Gunners had a bid worth around £26m accepted by the Italian giants earlier this week, and it appears the deal has been rushed to completion before the start of the World Cup

Arsenal have completed the signing of Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria, according to reports.

The Gunners have been linked with a summer swoop for the 22-year-old, and it was reported earlier this week that the north Londoners had seen an offer worth around £26m (€30m) accepted by Sampdoria.

And now, according to , the deal taking Torreira to the Emirates is ‘done’.

It had earlier been suggested that talks would be on hold until after the World Cup, with Torreira representing Uruguay, but it seems the deal has been rushed through to get the young midfielder signed before La Celeste get their campaign underway against Egypt on Friday.

There is no reference to the length of deal Torreira will sign in north London.

Arsenal have already confirmed the signing of Stephan Lichtsteiner, the full-back, from Juventus on a free transfer, while deals are expected to be completed for Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis and Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno in the coming weeks.
