Frank Lampard wants to bring former Chelsea star Salomon Kalou to Derby County
The Ivory Coast forward has become a hero at Hertha Berlin, but his former Blues team-mate is keen to bring him back to England
New Derby County manager Frank Lampard wants to bring former Chelsea team-mate Salomon Kalou to Pride Park this summer, according to reports in Germany.
Lampard is looking to bolster his squad having been confirmed as the new Rams head coach last month.
The Chelsea legend has already been linked with moves for former team-mate John Terry, as well as young Blues defender Jay Dasilva.
And, according to SportBild, Hertha Berlin star Kalou is also on the new boss’ radar.
The Ivory Coast international played alongside Lampard for six years at Stamford Bridge - winning the Premier League and Champions League titles, plus four FA Cups, and scoring 60 goals in 254 appearances.
He left the Blues in 2012 to join Ligue 1 side Lille, before moving on again in 2014 to Hertha – where he has become a firm fan favourite.
Kalou, who turns 33 in August, is still in fine goalscoring form in Germany – he netted 12 times last season, and has a total of 43 goals in 133 appearances for the Bundesliga side.
The forward is under contract with Hertha until 2020, but Bild claim they would be willing to sell for a "double-digit million offer".
That could prove a stumbling block for Lampard, with Derby chairman Mel Morris saying there will be no "significant" investment in the summer market.
The Rams chief also said it was his intention to reduce the club's wage bill over Financial Fair Play fears.
