Max Meyer targeted by Marseille as Arsenal and Liverpool end interest in midfielder

It seems the 22-year-old will not be heading to the Premier League this summer

Schalke midfielder Max Meyer is in talks with Marseille after both Arsenal and Liverpool reportedly ended their interest in signing him.

The 22-year-old's current contract runs out at the weekend, when he will be able to walk away from Schalke as a free agent.

A move to the Premier League had looked likely with both Arsenal and Liverpool keeping close tabs on his contractual situation.

However it has been reported that wage demands dampened both sides' interest with an annual salary of around £4m wanted by the youngster.

And now, according to Bild, the midfielder has opened talks with Marseille about a move to France.

Meyer, who broke into the Schalke first team during the 2012/12 season, has racked up 146 Bundesliga appearances for the club but now looks set for a new challenge.
