Liverpool appeared to be favourites to snap him up until an impressive World Cup with Switzerland caught the eye of United boss Jose Mourinho.

And now, as reported by Shaqiri has broken his silence on his future.

He said: "I want to continue playing with the big teams.

"I want to stay in the Premier League and you will soon learn my new team."

The Swiss international starred for his country at the World Cup, scoring a late winner in Switzerland's 2-1 comeback victory over Serbia in the group stages.

Shaqiri could not prevent Stoke from going down last season despite scoring eight goals and seven assists.

He signed for the Potters from Inter Milan in 2015 in a surprise £12m move and looks set to leave for the same price.
