Three Lions lyrics: Why do England fans sing ‘It’s coming home’ during World Cup games?
You may have heard a few people singing this

England v Croatia is live on talkSPORT at 19:00 (UK time) on Wednesday 11 July here.
Have you heard anyone shouting 'It's coming home' over and not quite understood why?
They are lyrics from the very popular song, Three Lions, which has been at number one in the charts recently so first of all, here are the words...
THREE LIONS LYRICS
It's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming, Football's coming home (repeat five times)
Everyone seems to know the score. They've seen it all before,
They just know, they're so sure, that England's gonna throw it away,
Gonna blow it away, but I know they can play, 'cause I remember...
Three Lions on a shirt, Jules Rimet still gleaming, thirty years of hurt, never stopped me dreaming.
So many jokes, so many sneers, but all those oh-so-nears. Wear you down, through the years,
But I still see that tackle by Moore and when Lineker scored, Bobby belting the ball and Nobby Dancing!
Three Lions on a shirt, Jules Rimet still gleaming, thirty years of hurt, never stopped me dreaming.
Commentary - England have done it, in the last minute of extra time.
Commentary - What a save, good old England, England who couldn't play football, England have got it in the bag.
I know that was then, but it could be again. It's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming, Football's coming home,
It's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming, Football's coming home...
It's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming, Football's coming home...
It's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming, Football's coming home...
Who wrote Three Lions?
It was released in 1996 ahead of the European Championship, which was held in England (football was coming 'home') and written by the Lightning Seeds' Ian Broudie, along with comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner - presenters of the hugely popular football-themed comedy show, Fantasy Football League. The title relates to the Three Lions on England's badge.
The 30 years of hurt was in relation to the 1966 World Cup, which England had won on home soil 30 years previously and at Euro '96, the song just took off and reached no.1, while the team reached the semi-finals where they lost to Germany on penalties.
