Saido Berahino is overweight due to bit-part role at West Brom, says former Baggies boss Steve Clarke

Former West Brom manager Steve Clarke has told Saido Berahino to get back in shape in order to resurrect his goalscoring form.
The striker has struggled to make an impact for the Baggies this season, with his form appearing to suffer from the disappointment of his failed move to Tottenahm in the summer.
Spurs were keen to land the forward on the back of a prolific campaign which saw him net 20 goals, but he has failed to deliver the same output this season.
Falling away from Tony Pulis’ plans after a row with the club over his snubbed Spurs move, Berahino has made just 23 West Brom appearances this term, scoring six goals.
And Clarke believes Berahino has suffered physically from his new bit-part role.
Asked what the likely problem is with Berahino, Clarke told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast: “That’s a great question - you should probably ask Tony.
“He did well for me. He made his breakthrough into the first-team while I was manager at West Brom, and he was good. He’s a boy who just wants to play football.
“There’s one thing I would say about Saido, and I saw it a little bit last night in the cup, is that he looks a little bit heavy to me.
“He’s always had little ups and downs in his weight and I think the fact he’s not been playing regularly means he’s maybe just put on a couple of kilos.
“It would certainly serve him better if he lost a little bit of weight.”
