New Everton boss Marco Silva appeared to be keen to land his fellow countryman with the Premier League side reportedly making contact with Carvalho's agent.

Serie A club Inter Milan were also interested in the midfielder but it seems highly likely that he will play his football in Spain from next season.

Carvalho has had a busy summer having held crisis talks with the Sporting hierarchy following an incident at the club's training ground where he and other squad members were attacked by fans at the club's training ground.

He also represented Portugal at the World Cup in Russia but they were knocked out in the last 16 by Uruguay.
