Manchester United fans fly banner calling Ed Woodward a ‘specialist in failure’ before Burnley clash

The Red Devils visited Turf Moor on the back of two successive Premier League defeats

Anti-Ed Woodward sentiment reached an all-time high on Sunday afternoon as Manchester United fans flew a banner calling the club's executive vice-chairman a 'specialist in failure' before the Premier League match against Burnley.

United visited Turf Moor on the back of two successive defeats, making this their worst start to a season since the inaugural Premier League campaign of 1992/93.

Though Jose Mourinho has faced public criticism for United's poor form, the Old Trafford club's fans have rallied around the Portuguese, with their anger directed at Woodward.

Woodward, 46, has been accused of failing to support his manager in the transfer market, with just three new players bought over the summer.

Despite Mourinho pushing to bring a new central defender to United for a number of months, United only managed to purchase Lee Grant, the goalkeeper, teenage full-back Diogo Dalot, and Brazil midfielder Fred before the transfer window closed in August.

The United faithful lay the entire blame for this failure on Woodward, and after calls for him to leave the club on social media, fans have moved to make their message public.

The banner reads: 'Ed Woodward - a specialist in failure!', and is a throwback to when Mourinho, while Chelsea manager, told the press then-Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was also a 'specialist in failure'.

A third straight defeat for Manchester United on Sunday would leave the Red Devils with just three points from their first four matches.
