Luka Modric named Best player, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah wins Puskas award, plus all the winners from FIFA Football ceremony
Chelsea duo Eden Hazard and N'Golo Kante were named alongside Manchester United's David De Gea in the FIFA World XI on an eventful night in London
Luka Modric has won the FIFA men's best player award, beating Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo.
For the 33-year-old playmaker, the prize caps a remarkable 12 months which saw him play an integral role in Real Madrid's third straight Champions League victory and then lead Croatia to their first ever World Cup final.
In his speech, the former Spurs maestro thanked his teammates and family in English, Spanish and Croatian, and said he was proud to receive this prize in front of FIFA's deputy general secretary Zvonimir Boban, a star of Croatia's 1998 World Cup side.
Modric's win breaks the Lionel Messi-Ronaldo duopoly of the last 10 years and it follows his player of the tournament prize at Russia 2018 and UEFA player of the year accolade last month.
"It's a great honour and a beautiful feeling to stand here with this amazing trophy," he said.
"First of all, I would like to give congratulations to Mohamed [Salah] and Cristiano [Ronaldo] for the great season that they've had and I'm sure in the future they will have another opportunity to fight for this trophy.
"This award shows that we all can become the best with hard work, dedication and belief. All dreams can come true."
Puskas Award
There was some consolation for Salah, who had earlier picked up the Puskas Award for the season's best goal, his stunning strike in the Merseyside derby at Anfield.
Ten goals were shortlisted for the award, including Gareth Bale’s overhead kick against the Reds in the Champions League final and Cristiano Ronaldo’s acrobatic effort against Juventus, but Salah received 38% of the vote to claim the prize.
FIFA World XI
Premier League trio David De Gea, N'Golo Kante and Eden Hazard were named in the FIFA/FIFPro World 11 but Salah missed out.
The dream team was put together by votes from 25,000 professional footballers from more than 65 countries.
Dani Alves grabbed one full-back spot, with Real Madrid trio Rafael Varane, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo completing the defence.
Modric and Kante were picked in a two-man midfield, with Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Hazard in front of them and Ronaldo up front.
Coach of the Year
France's World Cup-winning boss Didier Deschamps claimed the coach of the year title ahead of Croatia's Zlatko Dalic and Zinedine Zidane, formerly of Real.
Women's Player of the Year
Brazil's Marta collected her sixth women's player of the year award, but her first since 2010 after finishing as runner-up on three occasions during the intervening years.
Goalkeeper of the Year
Former Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois was named goalkeeper of the year.
