The Portuguese coach ended a 17-year association with Jose Mourinho when he stepped down from his role at United in May and the pair enjoyed two successful spells at Stamford Bridge with Terry as skipper.

Terry was reportedly in line to become Henry's assistant at Villa and the Blues legend then had a realistic chance of landing the top job on his own.

But the club's owners, who have been advised by Faria's agent Jorge Mendes since they axed Bruce, have their heart set on a Faria/Terry double act.

According to , Faria messaged the players on Saturday to make his first introductions and wish them luck for the game at Millwall.

As well as watching the match himself, Faria also sent a scout to watch the 2-1 defeat at The Den.
