Paul Lambert touts ‘unplayable’ Agbonlahor for England recall

Paul Lambert touted Gabriel Agbonlahor for an England recall following his display for Aston Villa against Arsenal

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has hailed Gabriel Agbonlahor as 'unplayable', and even suggested the forward may be worth an England recall, following his display in Villa's 3-1 away win over Arsenal.

Speaking after the final whistle, Lambert batted away suggestions that Christian Benteke was key in Villa's victory, and instead focused on Agbonlahor:

“I think you’re off the mark [regarding Benteke]. I think Agbonlahor is the one you should be talking about. He was just unplayable, for me it’s the best solo performance I’ve seen for a number of years. I thought he was outstanding”.

Lambert went on to suggest Agbonlahor's form is now consistent enough to merit a return to the England fold.

“I think the front three were unplayable. I said that Agbonlahor has been like that, for me, probably since the last four months of last season, and now the start of this season, so he might be worth a shout for the national team.”

Finally, Lambert rejected claims that Villa's second penalty from a Laurent Koscielny challenge may have been generous:

“If you look at the way the ball went the ball hasn’t deviated, if the lad wins it the ball goes over to the corner flag, it’s not, I think Gabby just got ahead of him”.
