Chelsea have not held talks with Frank Lampard about taking over as manager, according to reports.
There was speculation on Tuesday that the Blues had spoken to the club legend about the job should Maurizio Sarri quit.
However, report that no such discussions have taken place, but Chelsea are poised to make their move should the job become available.
Lampard has been touted as a replacement for Sarri following an impressive first season at Derby County in the Championship where he just missed out on promotion.
The Italian is favourite to take over at Juventus after just a year at Stamford Bridge where he finished third and won the Europa League.
No official approach has been made for Lampard and the Blues are thought to be trying to persuade Sarri, who signed a three-year contract at Stamford Bridge following the sacking of Antonio Conte, to stay.
A turbulent season ended on a high as they picked up some silverware but Juventus have targeted him as their next boss.
Sarri is thought to want to go back to Italy and the job at the Serie A club would be an ideal fit.
Other names touted as a potential successor at Chelsea are Jose Mourinho, Steve Holland and Nuno Espirito Santo.
Mourinho, the self-styled 'Special One'. made his name in England with the Blues and won three Premier League titles, three League Cups and the FA Cup during his two spells at Stamford Bridge.
He has been out of work since December and revealed in March that he wants to return to management by the end of this month.
“What I have in mind is that I would like to be back in the summer, in June, for a new club, for a new pre-season.
“I know exactly what I don’t want. That’s the reason why I had to say already to three or four different offers. I had to say no."
