The CIES Football Observatory has developed an algorithm to determine the value of the best players in Europe's top five leagues

Like a high street shop on Boxing Day, the opening of the summer transfer window has brought chaos and confusion to football fans across the globe.

Rumours about players and contract clauses seem to spring up out of nowhere and then odds are slashed on a move taking place, with little or no thorough market research.

But who really cares? As long as your club signs someone, it's one of the most thrilling times of the season.

Before a ball has even been kicked, fans scour the internet for hastily-assembled compilation videos of their supposed star signing set to a backdrop of ghastly Europop music.

'Reliable' club insiders briefly resurface on social media to spout their transfer secrets, before returning to hibernate until January.

Thankfully, the have created an algorithm to add some concrete science to the transfer market and work out how much a player is worth.

Football's top transfers from the 2019 summer transfer window so far

Taking into account a wide array of variables such as age, contract, position, minutes, goals, international status, team results, the footballing gurus have calculated the transfer values of some of the best players from Europe's top five league.
