Liverpool transfer news: John Aldridge tells club to sign Arsenal target Wilfried Zaha

The Crystal Palace winger could be a replacement for Mohamed Salah, who has been linked to Barcelona

Liverpool have been urged to sign Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, who has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal.

Zaha seemed set to join the Gunners this summer, but Unai Emery’s budget of just £45million does not look to be enough after the club's failure to qualify for the Champions League last season.

Zaha’s desire to compete on the European stage makes Liverpool the most likely destination for the Ivorian, who admitted he feels like he is ‘missing out’ when he watches the Champions League at home.

With an impressive league tally of 10 goals and 10 assists in 2018/19, Zaha is widely regarded as one of the best players outside of the top six.

Excluding a disastrous spell with Manchester United, Zaha has spent his entire career contracted to Palace, scoring 53 goals. In the eyes of many Eagles fans, he has already achieved legend status at the age of just 26.

Liverpool hero John Aldridge is desperate for Jurgen Klopp to make Zaha a priority signing this summer - stating he is the one player the Reds should go for.

In his Sunday World column, Aldridge writes: “With Daniel Sturridge leaving the club and his huge wages coming off the weekly bill, it opens up the opportunity for Klopp to sign an out-and-out goalscorer who could offer something different if one of the front three is injured or out of form.

“Zaha has given Liverpool some real problems in the last couple of years and Klopp's ability to turn talents of his type into consistent performers has to make him the kind of player who could thrive at Anfield.”

Aldridge’s claims could come at a cost, however, with rumours circulating that star player Mohamed Salah may be tempted to Barcelona in order to challenge for the title of ‘the best player in the world’.

Any potential move for Zaha may come were Salah to depart Anfield after two stunning seasons on Merseyside.
