Ben Chilwell to Chelsea: New £45m Blues star joins top ten list of most expensive English players ever

The list of the top ten most expensive English players ever has a new name in it following Ben Chilwell's mega-money move to Chelsea.
The England full-back has left Leicester to join Frank Lampard's Blues in a £45million transfer.
That means Chilwell is among the priciest homegrown players in history alongside the likes of Raheem Sterling and Harry Maguire.
So, who makes up the top ten? talkSPORT take a look.
10. Luke Shaw (Southampton to Manchester United in 2014) - £33million
Two seasons playing regular first-team Premier League football with Southampton saw Chelsea and United compete for Shaw’s signature.
And he became the world’s most expensive teenager after completing his move to Old Trafford.
9. Danny Drinkwater (Leicester to Chelsea in 2017) - £34million
After helping Leicester to their remarkable title win, Drinkwater left the King Power in a big money deal.
But things have not gone well for him since, struggling with injuries, off-field issues and failed loan moves.
8. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal to Liverpool in 2017) - £35million
The Ox called time on his Gunners career to pursue silverware elsewhere.
Jurgen Klopp spent big on the midfielder and he has performed well at Anfield since, winning the Premier League and Champions League.
7. Andy Carroll (Newcastle to Liverpool in 2011) - £37million
Desperate to replace Fernando Torres following his move to Chelsea, Liverpool signed Carroll for a then-club-record fee on January transfer deadline day.
Injuries and form blighted his Anfield career as he failed to hit the ground running.
6. Ben Chilwell (Leicester to Chelsea in 2020) - £45million
Chilwell has become one of the Premier League's best full-backs in recent years and has now secured a move to Chelsea.
Frank Lampard has been busy revamping his squad during the 2020 summer transfer window with Chilwell completing a big-money move to Stamford Bridge.
5. Kyle Walker (Tottenham to Manchester City in 2017) - £47million
Manchester City have often broke the bank for an English talent.
Walker has already claimed two Premier League titles during his time at the Etihad vindicating his Spurs exit.
4. Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Crystal Palace to Manchester United in 2019) - £49million
Wan-Bissaka became one of the most expensive English player of all time after his moved to Manchester United was sealed.
The 21-year-old was hugely impressive for Palace in the 2018/19 season, cementing his name as one of the Eagles' most important players.
He will now become a mainstay in the United defence for years to come.
3. John Stones (Everton to Manchester City in 2016) - £50million
After rejecting a £40million offer from Chelsea the previous summer, Everton could not turn down another mega bid from a Premier League rival.
Pep Guardiola made Stones his eighth summer signing and, at the time, the second most expensive defender in the world, behind £50million man David Luiz.
The World Cup scorer could be on the move again this summer.
2. Raheem Sterling (Liverpool to Manchester City in 2015) - £57million
In a controversial exit from Anfield, Sterling asked to leave the club twice before eventually joining Manchester City.
Now, he is an integral part of Guardiola’s star-studded team and has gone on to become one of the world's very best.
He scored 20 Premier League goals in the 2019/20 season.
1. Harry Maguire (Leicester to Manchester United in 2019) - £78million
Maguire became one of the most expensive players in history when he left the King Power for Old Trafford in a dream move for him.
As well as becoming an England stalwart, the 27-year-old has also been handed the captaincy at United.
Maguire played every minute of the 2019/20 Premier League season as United conceded the third lowest amount of goals in the top-flight.
