Albania players left bemused as France officials play WRONG national anthem before Euro 2020 qualifier

The France Football Federation accidentally played the Andorran national anthem before their match with Albania.

The Albanian team lined-up to sing their national anthem at the Stade de France in their Euro 2020 qualifier but were left angry and confused as the wrong music was played out.

Most of the players looked like they did not know what to do as they stood awkwardly on the pitch while their coaching staff reportedly were demanding the correct anthem be played before kick-off.

The start of the match was delayed by seven minutes as the FFF eventually rectified the situation but not before another blunder.

It is believed their stadium announcer apologised to Armenia and not their actual opponents Albania.

The World Cup winners went on to win the match 4-1 to preserve their status as Group H leaders.

Kinglsey Coman scored twice, in the sixth and 68th minute, while there were also goals for Olivier Giroud and Nanitamo Ikone.

France manager Didier Deschamps offered a public apology to the Albania team following the mix-up.

He told a press conference after the match: “I apologised to the bench and the coach. It’s something that should not happen, but it happened.

“I understand the position of the Albanians and it is logical that we waited until the Albanians could have their anthem before that match.”
