Odegaard has made just one senior appearance for Real Madrid since joining for £2.3million from Stromsgodset in 2015.

The 20-year-old has been shipped out on loan to Heerenveen twice, Vitesse and now Sociedad.

claim Manchester United chiefs believe they can land Odegaard for £25million next summer, with the youngster unlikely to make the grade at the Bernabeu.

The Norway international would bring much-needed creativity to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, who struggled to trouble Arsenal’s defence in Monday’s 1-1 draw.

Odegaard has been involved in almost half of Sociedad’s 12 LaLiga goals so far this season, scoring or assisting on four occasions.

Despite his lack of game time at Real Madrid, the former wonderkid still harbours hopes of starring for Zinedine Zidane’s team.

And there is reportedly a recall clause in Odegaard’s loan deal, which could be activated if Real are struggling.

Last month, Odegaard said: “My goal is still to play for Real Madrid. That’s why I signed for them, because I want to play there someday.

“I feel like I’ve improved a lot in the last two years. I think I’m a better player and I’m more mature, older and a little stronger physically.

“I feel better now than when I first came to Spain (as a 16-year-old). Age also helps, of course.”
