Chelsea’s youth revolution under Frank Lampard compared to Manchester United’s ‘Class of 92’ with Sir Alex Ferguson
Chelsea’s current crop of young stars reminds Tony Cascarino of Manchester United’s famous ‘Class of ‘92’.
Frank Lampard has given youth a chance at Stamford Bridge this season, with the likes of Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount breaking into the first team.
And the manager’s faith has been rewarded, as Abraham tops the Premier League goalscoring charts alongside Sergio Aguero, while Mount has four goals himself.
Elsewhere, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James have been handed starts in crucial games, while Fikayo Tomori has established himself as a regular at centre-back.
Fergie’s group of young stars – David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and the Neville brothers – guided the Red Devils to one of the most successful eras in the history of English football.
And Cascarino sees similarities at Stamford Bridge right now. He said: "Chelsea have got an amazing array of talent.
“The [Class of] 92 at Manchester United, what happened at that football club, Sir Alex Ferguson saw that and went with it. That’s what Frank Lampard is doing at Chelsea.”
The national team is currently flooded with young Blues stars, at both senior and youth level, following the club’s bright start to the season.
And Cascarino reckons Lampard’s approach to youth will have a positive effect on England’s success in the coming years.
“It’s going to pay huge dividends because a lot of them will get in the England squad,” he added.
