Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could loan out Manchester United starlets Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong and James Garner in January

Manchester United are to consider letting youngsters Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong and James Garner leave on loan in January, reports claim

The Red Devils have a history of producing exceptional talent in their youth set-up, with Mason Greenwood and Scott McTominay two of the latest prospects to gain frequent opportunities in the first-team.

However, United could let three of their brightest youngsters depart in January to further progress their development, despite the trio featuring in the first-team since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over as manager.

According to the , Gomes, Chong and Garner are all possibly going to leave Old Trafford on loan on deals running until the end of the season.

Les Parry, United's academy player performance manager, said: “There will be lots of hard work, as part of what Nicky Butt puts together as the plan for everybody.

“We’ll plan it out and we’ve identified four or five who might be going out in January. Obviously, our first-team manager has a say.”

When specifically mentioning Gomes, Chong and Garner, Parry said opportunities for loan deals popped up over the summer for the trio.

He added: “Three lads could have possibly gone on loan – Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong and James Garner – but he [Solskjaer] wanted to keep them here and have a look at them on tour.

“So a decision will be made, no doubt, for January as well. Hopefully, all three will be in the first team and not going anywhere.”

“As we know at this club, lads have got into the first team and a lot of it has been through circumstances they’ve got no control over. They’ve been presented with an opportunity and they’ve taken the opportunity so now a couple of them are regulars on the team sheet each week. We’ve had opportunities that have cropped up from nowhere. That’s football."

The statement rings true for Marcus Rashford, who found himself in the starting XI against FC Midjtylland in February 2016 after Anthony Matial was injured in the warm-up.

Rashford scored two goals in that game and earned himself a Premier League debut against Arsenal three days later where he scored another two and assisted one in a 3-2 win as he announced himself to the footballing world.

With a constant flow of experienced internationals and big money signings coming through the door at Old Trafford, first-team opportunities have been hard to come by for the youngsters with Gomes, Chong and Garner picking up just eight first-team appearances between them in all competitions this season.

When discussing how loan deals work behind the scenes at Old Trafford Parry said: “We're very pleased with the way it works.

“Nicky Butt identifies, with me and Neil Wood, and the manager, which players he wants to go out and we got every lad we wanted out. We got them all clubs.

“There are opportunities that come along and you wonder whether to take them or not, or leave them for another week or so in the hope you can get something a little bit better suited.”

“We draw up a player’s needs before we start the process. I’m not kidding that we tick every box, because we can’t, but there have been a few clubs for one or two players, that we didn’t think were suitable.

"On the face of it, it might look a good move, but we didn’t think it was, for one reason or another, so we looked elsewhere.”
