Alan Shearer and Michael Owen could face awkward reunion as former Newcastle teammates sign up for Amazon’s Premier League coverage

Alan Shearer and Michael Owen could be set for a very awkward reunion after they were announced as part of Amazon's punditry team for their Premier League coverage.

The former England and Newcastle team-mates were involved in a public feud on Twitter following the release of extracts from Owen's new book, Reboot – My Life, My Time.

In it, Owen was heavily critical of Shearer’s time as interim manager of Newcastle, who were relegated from the Premier League in 2009.

Shearer would respond by referencing the huge sum Owen was earning at the Toon, while the latter questioned the .

Now they will both be back on the same team as part of Amazon Prime's coverage of top-flight football.

The streaming service will exclusively show 20 matches in December, starting with the midweek round of games at the start of the month followed by a Boxing Day marathon, where nine fixtures will be shown on the same day.

Arsenal great Thierry Henry is also among Amazon's long list of pundits, as well as Jermaine Jenas, Les Ferdinand, Peter Crouch, Roberto Martinez, Lee Dixon, Harry Redknapp, Alex Scott and Peter Schmeichel.

Big-name commentators Clive Tyldesley, Jon Champion and Guy Mowbray are also on board, with Andy Townsend, Ally McCoist, Glenn Hoddle, Sue Smith and Kevin Kilbane providing co-commentary.
BBC Sport's Gabby Logan, who already presents on Amazon, will be hosting the coverage alongside Jim Rosenthal and Eilidh Barbour.
