Leeds United announce contract extension for Pablo Hernandez through to 2022

The 34-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year extension that will see him stay at the club until 2022.

The playmaker quickly became a fan favourite when he signed for the club ahead of the 2016/17 season initially on loan from Qatar side Al-Arabi.

The Whites snapped him up on a permanent deal in January 2017 and he ended his first full season with six goals in 38 appearances.

Hernandez was then named Leeds’ player of the year after the 2017/18 season where he netted nine times in 43 games.

He won that prize for the second consecutive season in 2018/19 where he scored 12 and added 12 assists as Marcelo Bielsa’s side were beaten in the Championship play-offs.

This season has been blighted with injury for Hernandez and he missed the whole of October before returning to full fitness earlier this month.

He started his career at Valencia and also enjoyed spells at Getafe, Swansea and Al-Arabi before joining Leeds in 2016.
