Trevor Sinclair apologises to the people of Liverpool for offensive tweet and donates show fee to homeless charity
Trevor Sinclair has apologised to the people of Liverpool for an offensive tweet he posted on Tuesday night.
Sinclair, who also apologised on Twitter and has removed the tweet where he referred to supporters as 'bin dippers', will be donating his show fee to charity.
The former Manchester City, West Ham and England winger was appearing in his regular slot on Jim White and Natalie Sawyer's mid-morning show.
Trevor interrupted Jim at the start of the show to say: “I want to sincerely apologise for a tweet I made last night.
“It was supposed to be a football tweet about Manchester City closing the gap on Liverpool, and it was a poor choice of words from me.
“I’m a Mancunian and there is a lot of rivalry between Mancs and Scousers, and the choice of words that I used didn’t come across well.
“I’m a working class lad myself. I am an advocate for Help the Homeless; I’ve played in charity matches throughout the country, I've opened a home in Whitley Bay for young people who find themselves homeless, I work at soup kitchens.
“I just want to apologise sincerely to the people of Liverpool.
“I would like to donate my show fee to Whitechapel Centre, which is a homeless place in Liverpool.”
