10 Premier League players who need a transfer in January, including Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United stars

The Premier League season has officially passed the midway stage and there has been no shortage of drama.

Be it players arguing with managers, managers falling out with fans or even fans turning on players, the festive season has certainly lived up to expectations so far.

But while most will be hoping to be rewarded on December 25 with a present or two, Premier League managers will be looking to January for gifts and potential bargains.

The transfer window opens up once again on January 1 and the rumour mill has already started to churn out gossip at an incredible rate.

Of course, fans can expect to see several new faces brought to the Premier League as coaches look to strengthen their squads.

But it also presents a perfect opportunity for players to leave the English top flight and rejuvenate their career.

Frank Lampard not looking at January transfers despite Chelsea loss

Moise Kean - Everton

It is hard to not feel sorry for the 19-year-old given the difficult situation caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson has placed him in.

Kean was brought on against Manchester United on Sunday but then, less than 20 minutes later, was hauled off again.

As he trudged off despondently towards the tunnel at Old Trafford, it is hard to see how his career at Goodison Park will ever take off.

Following his £27.5m move to the Toffees from Juventus, he has managed just one assist from 12 games. Surely a move away beckons?

Roberto - West Ham United

The Spaniard moved to east London this summer as a back-up to Lukasz Fabianski and nothing more.

After a couple of nervy performances in pre-season, it became clear he was not cut out for the top job. However, Fabianski’s injury forced him to deputise and the rest is history.

Calamitous and error-prone, Manuel Pellegrini instantly dropped the 33-year-old for former Millwall keeper David Martin who has kept two clean sheets in his four appearances.

With Fabianski set to return, potentially this month, it seems as though Roberto’s short spell as a Hammer will already be brought to an abrupt end.

Olivier Giroud - Chelsea

The France international may well have won the World Cup 18 months ago, but cannot buy a game for Chelsea.

Didier Deschamps has urged the former Arsenal striker to quit Stamford Bridge this month in a bid to keep his international dreams alive.

The 33-year-old has made just one Premier League start this season, but is currently out injured with an ankle injury.

Tammy Abraham has emerged as the Blues' first-choice No.9, with Michy Batshuayi also in Frank Lampard's plans at Stamford Bridge.

Nemanja Matic - Manchester United

Perhaps no player best represents Manchester United under Jose Mourinho than Matic.

The Serbia international moved to Old Trafford in the summer of 2017 and started spectacularly under the Portuguese.

However, his form has tailed off massively and Scott McTominay has formed a seemingly impregnable midfield partnership with Fred.

Having left United training after just 24 minutes two weeks ago, a January move is perhaps the only option for the 31-year-old.

Xherdan Shaqiri - Liverpool

Although his move to Anfield last season surprised plenty of sceptics, Shaqiri was an extremely useful player for the Reds.

His versatility and creativity meant Klopp could switch his preferred 4-3-3 to a 4-2-3-1 and it proved pivotal as they pushed Manchester City all the way in the title race.

But it seems as though his future does not lie on Merseyside, despite Klopp reassuring the Switzerland international he was a vital member of the squad last month.

He has played just five games in the Premier League and, at 28 years of age, has an awful lot still to give as he enters his peak years.

Mesut Ozil - Arsenal

The German midfielder seems disinterested and lacklustre every time he plays for Arsenal and cannot be happy with the way his career is turning out in north London.

No longer playing at international level and seemingly upsetting different groups of people with his every move, Ozil surely needs a move to revitalise his career.

Almost two years on after signing a mammoth new contract at the Emirates, the 31-year-old has continued to flatter to deceive.

His best form came at Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho, surely a move to rivals Tottenham isn’t on the cards?

Granit Xhaka - Arsenal

Like club teammate Ozil, Granit Xhaka has felt the wrath of Arsenal fans and not been afraid to show his disdain.

The midfielder moved to the Emirates in 2016 and was viewed as the ideal candidate to add some much needed steel to the midfield.

But, in truth, Xhaka lacks the necessary temperament to control a Premier League game from midfield and his recklessness makes him a liability.

Although a move seems unlikely, Xhaka has been linked with a move to Newcastle United once the January window opens.

Miguel Almiron - Newcastle United

Blessed with sensational pace and great work ethic, Almiron’s lack of success at St James’ is certainly not down a lack of effort.

Steve Bruce does not appear to know how to get the best out of the 25-year-old, but rather wants him to mould into his system.

It is well over a year now since his last goal, with fans on the Toon yet to see why Rafa Benitez was so keen to make him the most lucrative MLS export in history.

Having made just one assist this year, do not be surprised if Bruce looks to cash in to generate funds for his January budget.

Christian Benteke - Crystal Palace

It seems almost ludicrous that, at one point during his career with Aston Villa, Benteke was one of the most lethal and coveted strikers in the Premier League.

Powerful and clinical in equal measure, the Belgium international moved to Liverpool in 2015 and it did not work, meaning Alan Pardew was more than willing to splash out a club record sum to bring the striker to Selhurst Park.

But injuries and a lack of confidence have seen Jordan Ayew replace the 6ft 4ins front man under Roy Hodgson, who will almost certainly be looking to get rid of the striker.

Benteke himself even admitted to be frustrated by a lack of game time and, with the European Championship looming next summer, a move away seems best for all parties.

Cenk Tosun - Everton

It seems as though the Toffees could well be forced into some serious transfer moves in the upcoming window, with the forward department seriously lacking.

If Kean does not get a move, then Tosun will be one of the first players out of the door instead.

Signed by Sam Allardyce two years ago, the Turkey international has flattered to deceive and is third choice behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin and the equally ineffective Kean.

The 28-year-old needs to get his career back on track and a move would be the perfect solution.
