Lennon: The FAI want O’Neill to replace Trapattoni

Football correspondent for the Irish Daily Star, Paul Lennon, joined Kick Off to discuss the vacant Ireland manager’s post

Football correspondent for the Irish Daily Star, Paul Lennon, joined Kick Off to discuss the vacant Republic of Ireland manager’s post.

He looks at the contenders for the job following Giovanni Trapattoni’s decision to leave the role after defeats to Sweden and Austria in World Cup qualifying.

Lennon believes ex-Sunderland and Celtic boss Martin O’Neill is the frontrunner for the job and he admits the FAI have already sounded him out and received positive feedback.

He also looks at the chances of Roy Keane taking over from the Italian but admits he’s only likely to be their third choice.
