Tony Cascarino believes Jordan Henderson is undoubtedly Liverpool’s player of the decade, ahead of the likes of Steven Gerrard and Mohamed Salah.

The Reds started the decade in a period of limbo, flirting with mid-table mediocrity and flitting between the Champions League and the Europa League.

Roy Hodgson left Fulham to take charge at Anfield in the summer of 2010, before Kenny Dalglish was tasked with returning the club back to its former glory.

In his first summer transfer window in 2011, King Kenny parted with £16million to bring Henderson to Merseyside from Sunderland – a fee which was questioned at the time by some critics.

However, the parallels between Henderson’s development this decade and Liverpool’s rise are incredible as the midfielder replaced Gerrard as captain in 2015, before lifting the European Cup earlier this year.

He could also end the season by becoming the first Liverpool captain to lift the league title for 30 years, after the Reds thumped second-place Leicester City 4-0 on Boxing Day to go 13 points clear with a game in hand.

And speaking on the GameDay Warm-Up, Cascarino explained why the England international deserves to be recognised ahead of some of Liverpool's more prestigious names from the past ten years.

“Okay he might not have been as good as Steven Gerrard,” Cascarino said. “Luis Suarez had his brilliance for a year – two years probably.

“And you’ve had some great players play for the club; Salah has been brilliant for two years, like Mane, and there are a huge amount of players.

“But if you’re talking about 2010 to 2020, Jordan Henderson has done nine years there.

“And he has ended up being part of of that side under every manager.

“So I can’t see how it can be anybody but Jordan Henderson.”
