Jordan Hugill open to permanent QPR stay but would love to prove David Moyes was right to sign him for West Ham

West Ham striker Jordan Hugill has hinted he’s open to joining QPR on a permanent basis, but says no decision over his future will be made until the end of the season.

Hugill has hit the ground running since joining Mark Warburton’s side on loan from the Hammers last summer, scoring ten times in all competitions to sit just four away from enjoying his best ever season in front of goal.

Scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for QPR this season, with the west London side able to call upon one of the most feared trios in the Championship in Hugill, Nahki Wells and Eberechi Eze, who have notched 31 league goals between them.

The attacking style of football Warburton has implemented has certainly aided the club’s more creative players and Hugill is enjoying his football at the moment.

Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT, the 27-year-old striker said: “I’m loving it. I think in every interview I’ve done, I’ve always credited everything to the squad, to the people behind the scenes, and everybody at the whole club as it’s a major factor as to why I’m enjoying myself this year.

"I’m doing well, I’m scoring goals and the performances have been good.

“The attacking football was one of the reasons why I looked at coming here. I wanted to enjoy playing football and I wanted to score goals and always look to create chances, and that’s what we do as a team.

“The manager brought in some fantastic people. Nahki is on fire at the moment, Eze is an unbelievable talent, and you’ve even got Ilias [Chair] and Bright [Osayi-Samuel] as well.

"There are a lot who are brilliant, and it is credit to the manager and Les [Ferdinand, director of football] who bring these players in together.”

Pressed on whether he’d be open to remaining at QPR beyond the end of his loan spell, Hugill added: “I’m open to anything and whatever happens, will happen.

"My focus at the moment is to play the season out, score goals, play games and have good performances. When the opportunity arises, we can have a look at it, but I’m just focusing on myself.”

West Ham parted with a reported £10million to secure Hugill’s services from Preston North End two years ago, but the striker found opportunities hard to come by at the London Stadium.

He made just three appearances, all as a substitute, in his first six months with the Hammers, before spending last season back in the Championship on loan at hometown club Middlesbrough.

Coincidentally David Moyes, the man who signed Hugill for West Ham, is now back at the club and the striker is thankful to his former manager for providing him with the opportunity to move to the Premier League.

“I think he [Moyes] is brilliant," added Hugill. "He brought me to West Ham and I owe him a lot for giving me that break.

West Ham fan says he'll boycott the club if they sign Dimitri Payet again!

“Hopefully, I can do well here and maybe at the end of the season, [I’ll go back and be able to] prove him right for bringing me in.

“To bring David Moyes and Alan Irvine back to the club is brilliant for them because the relationship they had beforehand with the players that were there can only help them.”

Hugill, however, is likely to be central to QPR’s chances of progressing in the FA Cup, with the strapping striker hitting a brace against Swansea earlier this month in the third-round, as a rampant Rangers secured a 5-1 win.

The west Londoners face Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth-round on Friday at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, and as well as enjoying a cup run Hugill feels the side are capable of challenging for the play-offs in the Championship also.

“I think you can’t not [want to have a cup run]," he finished. ";It’s one of the oldest cup competitions in the world so it’s one of those where you’ve got to want to play in it and do well.

“I think we can maybe play the players on the fringes and pushing for the first team and give them an opportunity to play, but that’s down to the manager. It’s the perfect opportunity for the lads to showcase themselves.

“We’ve shown recently we can go up against the best and we can hold our own. Realistically, we’ve got the talent there to push for the play-offs.

“I know that might be a bit mad, but we’ve got to aim for the play-offs as, otherwise, what else are you aiming for?

"We’re taking it each game at a time. Current performances prove that we can mix it with the best."
