Young Premier League stars risk getting into ‘vicious circle’ financially if they don’t invest in their futures now, claims Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin

Hector Bellerin has been planning for life after football for some time.

You could argue that the Arsenal defender is the most stylish player around, particularly in the Premier League.

Fashion is a big passion of Bellerin's, with the Spain international using Instagram to document his love of clothes.

Bellerin, who co-founded marketing agency B-Engaged, has wisely invested in his future and says he has advised other younger players to do the same.

"Many players have come to me personally and asked for my opinion, they obviously know of my involvement with B-Engaged," the 25-year-old told talkSPORT.

"I've found that agents, along with players, are realising how important it is to have someone advising them what to do with their money from a young age.

"Maybe these players' families or their agent doesn’t feel it is right for me to tell them what to do and an accountant would be better placed to give their opinion on things, and that is fair enough!"

Bellerin has spoken with several players at Arsenal regarding this, as well as outside of the club, warning them to think ahead or risk getting into a 'vicious circle' with their finances later in life.

He added: "I have had conversations with a lot of young players to tell them to start early and invest in their future, rather than wait until they are 29 or 30 or even older than that."

"When you get to that age you’ll want to risk more because you haven’t saved correctly and when you do that you can lose more, so you risk more again, it becomes a vicious circle.

"But if you start when you are young, get into the right habits saving as much as you can you’ll be in a much stronger position than if you just begin at 30."

Meanwhile, Bellerin says players should make the most of building their own brand using social media, with the Spain right-back effectively using the likes of Twitter and Instagram as a valuable marketing tool.

“I think right now footballers have such a big platform that they must utilise and use in the best ways possible,” he explained.

“If you are lucky your career can continue until you are 35 or 40, so you need to make sure you have everything set up for when you retire.

“By building your brand early you can have a much better chance at creating success for yourself.”
