David Luiz’s agent Kia Joorabchian says Arsenal defender’s contract situation will be resolved this week following Man City horror show

David Luiz's representative, Kia Joorabchian, has told talkSPORT that the Arsenal defender's future will be resolved by the end of this week.
The Brazilian has come under heavy scrutiny after a nightmare performance in Wednesday night's 3-0 defeat at Manchester City, where the 33-year-old gifted City their first goal before later giving away a penalty and seeing red.
That was all during a 40-minute cameo, which included the half-time interval, after being introduced as a substitute for the injured Pablo Mari midway through the first half.
Luiz, whose contract expires at the Emirates on June 30, took full responsibility for his side's defeat when speaking after the game.
The former Chelsea defender's future remains uncertain in north London, even more so after his most recent performance as Project Restart commenced last night.
Joorabchian leapt to the defence of his client on Thursday and says an imminent decision will be made regarding his client's future.
"The contract situation has dragged on not because of any reason, not because of the will of either Arsenal or David to finalise, but really because of the situation that occurred with this pandemic," he said on the White & Sawyer show.
"Now it becomes a moment where you've got 14 days left [until the deadline] and you're at a critical point of your career, where you'd probably three or four years left at the very top level, so that's obviously at the back of your mind.
"But that's not an excuse for yesterday's performance, but you are playing one of the best teams in England and Arsenal's lack of control on the game would have put pressure on the defence. David wanted to have a different type of game.
"What I can tell you is the situation from Arsenal's point of view will be resolved this week. Jun 22 is the deadline for most of the clubs to finish the season and beyond, irrespective of any other situation.
"It's a case of allowing Arsenal to sort out everything that needs to be sorted out during this pandemic. There are several issues within the whole structure that will get resolved."
He continued: "I spoke with David last night. These things happen in a game, and I'm not defending any situation but David is a guy who has won 20 trophies in his career, including the Premier League, the FA Cup, the Europa League and the Champions League.
"He's won everything in Portugal and France too, so he's a guy with a lot of experience and played under [Rafa] Benitez, [Maurizio] Sarri, [Antonio] Conte, [Jose] Mourinho, Unai [Emery] and now Mikel [Arteta].
"If you speak to all those top coaches, especially coaches like Benitez, who had worked with [Jamie] Carragher and David, and ask him who he'd choose first, I think he'd pick David all day long.
"Everybody can make a mistake, but I think it's very important when you do make a mistake you come out and say sorry and hold your hands up.
"Arsenal have a lot of young players and it's an incredible thing for those guys to see such an experienced guy with so many trophies to do something like that."
Gunners legend Perry Groves quizzed Joorabchian about Luiz's habit of making costly errors leading to goals - a claim the super agent vehemently denied.
He responded: "You say similar mistakes, but I don't really remember the last time he made that kind of mistake?
"Of course, central defenders are more prone to giving away penalties because they are the last man most of the time.
"If you compare him to other central defenders, you'll see that David's record and numbers are spotless in terms of players who have played in the Premier League and other leagues.
"Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal board know what they see from David day in day out, and they know what they see from him week in week out.
"If David was what people like Jamie [O'Hara] say, then why would these great coaches have so much respect for David?"
Jim White ended the show by asking Joorabchian three very direct questions regarding Luiz's future, which you can read below...
JW: Does David want to stay at Arsenal?"
KJ: "Yes, he said he did."
JW: "Have Arsenal shown a willingness to keep him?"
KJ: "Absolutely."
JW: "Will he be wearing an Arsenal shirt in July?"
KJ: "We'll find out before June 23."
