The stats and broken records which suggest Jurgen Klopp’s 2019/20 Liverpool side could be the greatest in Premier League history

There should be no asterisk next to the 2019/20 season - Liverpool are Premier League champions and deservedly so.

Jurgen Klopp’s clinched the title without even kicking a ball after Chelsea defeated Manchester City 2-1 on Thursday night.

While the last part of the season is being played behind closed doors - after a three-month break in play due to the coronavirus pandemic - nothing should diminish their achievements.

As the celebrations in Merseyside lasted long into the night, legends of the game took the chance to celebrate one of the greatest club sides the competition has ever seen.

Pep Guardiola, manager of desposed champions Manchester City, admitted his team could not match the Reds for passion this season after their defeat at Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard will surely be disappointed in the way in which his team surrendered their Premier League crown, but he must accept Liverpool were just simply too good in 2019/20.

While they couldn't quite match Arsenal's Invincibles, losing against Watford in March to end their hopes of an unbeaten season, Klopp's men have broken numerous records - and have more in sight.

By winning the title with seven games to spare, they secured the quickest ever title win - a record previously held by Manchester United (2000-01) and Manchester City (2017-18), who wrapped up their league crowns with five games to go.

The 4-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace on Wednesday night also extended their record-breaking home run, with a 23rd successive victory at Anfield - well clear of City's record of 20 between 2011 and 2012.

They have enjoyed the biggest ever lead in English top-flight history this season - 25 points clear at one stage - and accumulated the most points (61) after 21 games of any team in history across Europe's top five leagues.

Now they are looking to continue their incredible form and clinch plenty more records to argue their case for being the best Premier League side in history.

The Reds are on course to claim the most points in a season.

They need 15 more points from their final seven games to eclipse City's total of 100 from the 2017-18 season.

With fixtures against Aston Villa, Brighton and Burnley to come, few would bet against them.

They are also just four wins away from matching the 32 victories claimed by City in 2017/18 and 2018/19, while they are well set to finish top with the biggest ever gap to second (record currently 19 points).

Win their final three games at Anfield and Liverpool will also be the first team in Premier League history to win all 19 games at home.

It's some side Klopp has assembled!
