Leeds United confirm £16m signing of Helder Costa on a four-year deal ahead of potential Premier League return

Leeds United have confirmed the £16million signing of Helder Costa from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a four-year deal.

The former Benfica winger has spent the entirety of the 2019/20 season on loan at Elland Road and has now made the move permanent ahead of their potential Premier League return.

Costa began his career in Lisbon, before spells at Deportivo La Coruna and AS Monaco.

";Leeds United are delighted to announce Helder Costa has now officially joined the club on a permanent basis," read a club statement.

"The Portugal international has put pen to paper on a four-year contract, running until the summer of 2024."

The 26-year-old moved to Molineux in 2016 on loan and, after being named Player of the Season, signed permanently for a club record transfer fee.

Leeds captain Liam Cooper insists the squad are not getting ahead of themselves

Costa has made 43 appearances for Leeds this season, scoring four goals.

With just five games remaining, the Whites are top of the Championship and are seeking a return to the top flight for the first time since 2004.

As it stands, Marcelo Bielsa’s men are just one point above West Bromwich Albion and have a game in hand on Brentford and Fulham, in third and fourth, respectively.
