Kalidou Koulibaly linked with Man City as club plan transfer spree and fresh Pep Guardiola contract to challenge for Champions League

Man City are targeting three players to help win a first Champions League trophy next season.

The club had a two-year European ban overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport and are now reportedly planning to sign the players to help them dominate abroad.

City would have lost more than £200m in revenue if they had been kicked out of the Champions League and say they will use the money saved on new additions this summer.

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is their top target, while they are tracking centre-backs Ruben Dias and Pau Torres, who play for Benfica and Villarreal, respectively.

Koulibaly, 29, is valued at £70m and considered one of the world’s top defenders with both Liverpool and Man United also believed to be keen.

With John Stones linked with a return to Everton after falling out of favour at the Etihad, a centre-back could be a high priority position for City.

The report adds Valencia winger Ferran Torres, 20, has been noted as a possible replacement for Leroy Sane, who joined Bayern Munich in a deal worth up to £55m earlier this month.

The , meanwhile, also say a left-back is a priority, mentioning David Alaba in a £150m spending spree and note City may also move for a striker because of Sergio Aguero’s potential departure next summer when his contract is due to end.

Guardiola’s contract also runs out next year, but City are determined to extend his stay in Manchester.

The manager could lead them to Champions League success this season, with the club set to play the second leg of their last-16 clash against Real Madrid next month.

City lead 2-1 thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne and will take on Juventus or Lyon in the quarter-finals if they see off Zinedine Zidane’s side.
